Total Assessable Compensation (cash + housing allowance + 1/2 SECA) is set at $37,677. Cash salary is negotiable based on experience.

“Middle of the Road” (“Broad Church”)
The liturgies of the Book of Common Prayer and the celebration of Holy Communion, as well as meaningful sermons, hymns, our choir, and 1850 organ help to shape our weekly 11AM Sunday worship. Acoustic guitar also enhances our services.

We foster a spirit of caring and inclusiveness by loving and serving one another and the world to the glory of God’s name. Below are examples of some of our outreach:

Providing worship services on YouTube to reach members who are unable to attend.

Participating in Sacred Ground study to learn more about overcoming racism.

Weekly Bible Study for our St. Peter’s congregation and for the community.

Monthly “Healthy Harvest” Food Distribution to families in need.

Work with “Hunters for the Hungry”.

We maintain a Discretionary Fund collected from loose offerings once a month to help those with financial challenges.

As a free community service, once a year we have the Shred It Truck to come for anyone who needs to dispose of any papers.

We open our parish hall for members and guests for Historic Port Royal to meet quarterly.
Jamaica Project: We support the Victoria School in a small town in Jamaica by providing funds and supplies. (Computers, school supplies, toothbrushes & toothpaste, etc.) A team from St. Peter’s has visited the school twice to meet the principal, staff and the students to maintain a personal connection.

We support several organizations in Caroline County, including Caroline’s Promise, through donation of school supplies, and Caroline County Public schools with snacks and school supplies for those who have none. We also provide food /financial donations to Social Services at Thanksgiving and Christmas.

We have provided activities for Port Royal area children such as kickball and Bingo. We work with Historic Port Royal and Caroline County to host the county’s annual 4th of July event outside in front of the church and inside as well.

We include members of the community to participate in our yearly Christmas Nativity program.

Each year we participate in a Easter Sunrise service jointly with Shiloh Baptist & Memorial Baptist.

St. Peter’s is a member of C.E.R.V.E., a county wide organization made up of representatives from the Caroline County Sheriff`s Department, Caroline County Social Services and many area churches to help meet emergency financial needs of residents, or people who are passing through our area.

We also support UTO, Heifer International, & Episcopal Relief & Development.

We host a free annual concert by various artists for the community.

We participated in the annual countywide cleanup for Earth Day.

Several members made soup during the year for people who were ill.

Another strength that St. Peter’s Church has is its beautiful setting beside the Rappahannock River in historic Port Royal, Va. It is located between Washington and Richmond. The church and parish hall have been lovingly restored and well maintained over the years. The parish hall has a modern kitchen with 2 large rooms for dining or meetings. Upstairs is the Rector’s office with a river view. The outdoor pavilion provides space for meetings and receptions. If, however, our funds were ever to run low, we could possibly use the parish house and/or lawn overlooking the river to sustain our financial status by bringing in extra income, such as providing religious day retreats, weddings, receptions, as a plein air art venue, community dinners etc.

At St. Peter's, we realize the importance of socializing together. This, too, is a strength. Our monthly “Coffee Hour” after church on the first Sunday of the month is a time to visit together with our fellow parishioners. It is a time to get to know new members and strengthen old friendships. On New Year`s Eve, everyone brings a dish for an early dinner and are home by 8 PM.

The church, erected in 1835, has never closed and we pray it never does. St. Peter’s Church is, indeed, a special place to find the “Peace of God”.

We hope to find a priest who is an inspired worship leader, caring and inclusive of all people.

We need to develop strategies to help us grow our membership. Like many churches, some of our older members have moved to be near family, have entered assistive living or have passed away. We strive to reach as many as possible by our YouTube services. Communion is brought to several parishioners in Chancellor’s Village, a local assisted living.

We currently have 10 children of various ages in our congregation. We have had children’s Sunday School for the younger ones, however, due to school or other commitments, it has been difficult to maintain a steady attendance. We hope to find more ways to reach the children whether it is through a brief “children’s sermon” during the service or through involving them in music ( several are taking lessons on various instruments), or in activities outside of church such as a pool party, ice cream socials, bowling, etc.
