Description
Liturgical style and practice
Our worship style leans towards Low Church. We most frequently use the BCP Rite II with Eucharist celebrated each Sunday. Music is an important part of our 9:30 am service. Many of our hymns are taken from both the 1982 Hymnal and Wonder Love and Praise. Our church organist introduces other material from her collection, most specifically for anthems. Currently, we are holding one service per Sunday and a Tuesday Morning Prayer service combined with bible study. Pre-COVID, we also held an 8:00 am service which could be described as a more “contemplative service” with no music, and those in attendance were invited to recite the Eucharistic Prayers at the altar. In the past, we have used a number of other sources to enrich our services, most recently “The Way of Love” by Bishop Curry, Celtic Prayer Services, and Enriching Our Worship.
Strengths
We have a small but very dedicated faith-based community, and basically, Trinity parishioners come every Sunday and are involved in one or more of the parish committees. The first Trinity Church of Marshfield was established in 1745 and has had several declines and rebirths over the past 275 years. And each time, there would be a small strong nucleus that would bring Trinity back to life, and the parish would thrive. It is our belief that with God’s help and with an energetic and faithful leader, we will again reach out to and attract those looking for a faith-based community.
We have a strong nursery school that is well respected in Marshfield, with an enrollment of over 120 three to five year olds and a staff of 15. We are currently working to build a strong relationship with the students, teachers, and families. The school has a certified outdoor classroom.
Challenges
We are located in the hills of Marshfield, away from the center of activity and on a street not regularly traveled. We lost our small group of young families with children in Sunday School during Covid, and they have not returned. We did have 7 of the older ones return for confirmation class this winter, and Bishop Gates confirmed them at Trinity in May, which was wonderful!
Comments
The parish is spending the principle of its endowment to fund a full time position. They are committed to growing the congregation and the Bishop has given permission for this expenditure.
