Description

Additional comments re: compensation, benefits and housing.

The listed compensation is reflects TCC without without reference to the rectory. If the priest were to live in the rectory imputed value of the rectory would be subtracted from cash compensation. The fair market value of the rectory is significantly higher than the imputed value included in in our diocesan TCC calculations.

Liturgical style and practice

The worship style at St. Peter’s could best be described as traditional ‘broad church’. Worship is at the heart of St. Peter’s community life. During the academic year, we gather on Sunday mornings for Holy Eucharist at 8:00 a.m. and 10:00 a.m. Our early service is a said Holy Eucharist, Rite II, in our historic chapel. Our 10:00 a.m. Holy Eucharist service is a ‘sung’ service led by our choir (both paid and volunteer) and features hymns and choral music led by our choir director on piano and organ.

Strengths

  • A highly committed community. Our people enjoy warm relationships with one another… disagreements are rare. People enjoy sharing worship and fellowship each week.  One comment we hear often from people who return to us after visiting for the first time is that they came back because we are friendlier than other churches.
  • We offer multiple, meaningful outreach opportunities.
  • People like our, casual yet reverent, worship style and inspiring preaching.
  • We have robust music program.
  • Our uplifting, light-filled worship space.

Challenges

Like many other churches, St. Peter’s has experienced a decline in attendance over the past decade.  Societal changes in attitudes toward organized religion, competition for attention with Sunday sports/family activities, and the pandemic are key contributing factors.

Our challenge is to find opportunities to provide spiritual nourishment to the Weston community that are not purely focused on Sunday morning services, but also offer other types of fellowship and worship at different times.  To this end, St. Peter’s recently undertook a strategic review with the help of a consultant in which we identified the opportunity to become a “mission hub” for community outreach activities led by our parish as well as other organizations.  We continue to look for opportunities to better connect our community with St. Peter’s.

Comments

Our ideal leader is someone who is highly engaged in our community through school activities, community groups, etc. and sees church as extending beyond the walls of our building.  He/she will strive to promote awareness of our church’s presence in the community, and engage with people with the goal of building our church.

St. Peter’s offers an ideal platform for a leader who is ambitious to make a mark as a church builder.  We have a congregation that gets along with each other, a clear vision of who we are and where we want to go, an excellent staff, a substantial financial foundation, a beautifully maintained building, a highly desirable rectory in a town with top rated schools, a town demographically ideal for the Episcopal church, and a commitment to provide our rector with the resources necessary to meet our goals.
