Strengths
The most significant changes have to do with increased and enhanced lay leadership in worship. Rev John Perry retired this last year so St John The Baptist is currently without a priest. In the interim we are using priests we know and supply priests. We have been preparing for this eventuality for some time and have been training lay parishioners to lead Morning Prayer on Sundays. Lay parishioners to offer homilies and we will be training lay parishioners to serve as Eucharistic Visitors, bringing communion to the home-bound. We are blessed with a very dedicated and faithful body of parishioners.
Hardwick is at the center of the eco-agribusiness world so provides an opportunity for anyone wanting to be a part of that world. See: https://www.hardwickagriculture.org/ and https://www.nvda.net/yellow_barn/about.html.
The parish is prepared to assist a candidate in finding a position that would allow the priest to be a worker-priest.
Challenges
Small parish in a rural VT community.
