Description
Liturgical style and practice
Each Sunday, the Eucharist is celebrated at an 8:30 AM spoken service, and at a 10:30 service with organ and a devoted choir. There is church school during the 10:30 service; coffee hour follows that service. A simple, spoken Eucharist is celebrated Wednesdays at 6 PM. We use Rite 2, but once a month Rite 1 is used at the 8:30 service only. We use the 1982 Hymnal, with occasional selections from other sources. Incense is rarely used.
Strengths
- Inclusivity -- toleration of differences, mutual respect and helpfulness
- Devoted and responsible lay leadership.
- Tradition of community involvement by means of the church's own events and programs as well as cooperating with those of the town and beyond.
- Resilience, demonstrated in coping with the retirement of a long term beloved pastor, exigencies of the pandemic, and the sudden loss of the priest-in-charge.
- Optimally sited and well-maintained church buildings and grounds.
Challenges
- While we have had increasing numbers return to worship in person over the past few months, we have not returned to our pre-covid numbers.
- In late December 2022 the priest in charge of 2 and 1/2 years was called to another This is both a challenge and an opportunity as we search for a full-time rector who whose ministry will best suit this parish and its ministries. Included in those ministries is our aspiration of reaching more in our local and regional communities.
- Working effectively and purposefully with the wider church.
