Liturgical style and practice

Broad church with a blended range of music – Hymnal, LEVAS II, and others. Rites I and II are as welcomed as newer forms from Enriching Our Worship. There is a mid-week service of healing. The people of Christ Church enjoy worship that is fully participatory!

  • Solid parish located in capital city
  • Full partner/participant in diocesan life
  • Committed lay leadership
  • Resilient staff
  • Strong practice of welcoming guests and seekers
  • Open to new/creative ways to engage community/outreach
  • Desire to grow/stretch spiritually/theologically
  • Dover is home to a large air force base
  • Dover is also home to Delaware State University -- a historically Black university
  • Beaches and larger urban life are both nearby

  • There is not an active children’s program as membership dynamics skew older (the parish is not unduly anxious about this demographic reality and are open to ideas to re-establish ministries to children)
  • There is ample opportunity to improve financial processes and decision making as well as providing theological grounding for stewardship
  • The parish has been without an organist/director of music for many months (they are still actively seeking)

Christ Church, Dover enjoys a larger than normal role in the life of the diocese due to its geographically accessible/central location. Many diocesan meetings take place here including regular College of Clergy gatherings as well as several committees and commissions. Christ Church provides hospitality to the Episcopal Church in Delaware's participants in Delaware's annual Pride festival.
