Liturgical style and practice

During our forums, we decided that we are basically very traditional including incense once a month, Rites I & II on a weekly basis. We also use the 1928 Prayer Book for Compline several times per year. We hold Lessons and Carols at Advent and Christmas and focus on traditional music. Our Choir is a member of the Royal Society of Church Music. We also hold once year a Celtic Service and a Blessing of the Animals.

Strengths

Christ Church has very strong lay leadership as well as strong and active guilds and commissions. In particular, the Acolyte and Altar Guilds have shown great growth of late. Our Lay Readers Group is diverse and includes youth of the Parish. We have an active Worship Committee that meets monthly with the Rector to discuss our worship services and Holy Day celebrations and how we will practice them. The committee has representation from all guilds and commissions that are directly involved with the worship services.

The choir and acolyte corps are both large, vibrant ministries.

Christ Church recently conducted an extremely successful Capital Campaign which allowed us to make necessary repairs and additions to our church. A new slate roof was installed to replace the original one, the stained glass windows were cleaned and repaired, and an environmentally friendly geothermal system was installed to provide much needed air conditioning as well as augment our heating system.

Challenges

We have been keeping a “non- political” or “via media” in terms of hot button social and political issues. This has kept our Parish from splintering like so many churches.

We have had somewhat less success in revamping our church school program. Attendance numbers in the program have dwindled over recent years, and in 2022 we embarked on a process to change the timing, staffing, curriculum and other aspects. These changes have yielded some success so far but we have a lot of work left before us.
