Liturgical style and practice

Each week through the year a Sunday service is held at 9:30AM offering Eucharist Rite I, Rite II, or Rite III. Occasionally Morning Prayer is read as an alternative. In addition, we conduct seasonal special services such as Ash Wednesday, Good Friday, All Saints Day, Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. We have participated in the community Easter Sunrise Service. In the past we regularly celebrated a healing service in conjunction with an Order of St. Luke group. We have the hope of reestablishing this ministry in the future.

Strengths

Hertford is a small but diverse community with strong historical and familial roots. We have several buildings that were constructed before the Revolutionary War and many were built in the early 1900’s. Both Perquimans County and the town of Hertford, which is the county seat, are one of the faster growing parts of northeastern North Carolina. There are efforts underway to attract industry to the county that will increase job opportunities for local residents. The school system is considered one of the best in our part of North Carolina. We have a local community theater, Arts League that supports our local artists, and facilities at Albemarle Plantation (a local gated community 8 miles south of Hertford) that are open to the public (including an excellent golf course, restaurants, and a Marina).

Perquimans County has an extensive waterfront throughout the county which has attracted many new residents.

We have a lovely, historical church building that provides many opportunities for the church and community. Our 1852 Jardine organ is one of the oldest church organs in North Carolina still in use. Visit our webpage for full profile.

Challenges

In spite of our treasures of history and climate, there are challenges our community faces as do many smaller towns across our country which include: a lack of employment opportunities for our young people and an aging population.

Comments

We are seeking a priest with energy, enthusiasm and a genuine desire to nurture our congregation as together we fulfill Holy Trinity's mission. Our next Rector will find a loving body of Christ in our active congregation to support him or her in being the spiritual leader we each need to guide us on our Christian journey. We seek a priest who can provide compelling and inspiring sermons, compassionate and spiritual leadership, and be approachable with pastoral skills.

Church leaders, both clergy and laity, must represent Christ in their daily thoughts, words, and deeds, inspiring others by example. We desire a Rector who can radiate Christ's love in actions and words, preaching with both deep theological roots and everyday applications, someone with the ability to attract new members and those seeking God in their lives.

We trust our new Rector will teach and inspire our members to participate even more fully in the life of the parish, especially in the areas of pastoral care, outreach and financial support. We trust that he or she understands modern day concerns.

Our Parish Survey gave our congregation the chance to address their hopes for the skills and gifts of our new Rector. Often mentioned were compelling and inspiring sermons, provide compassionate and spiritual leadership, and be approachable with pastoral skills. We look to our future priest to empower us spiritually so that together we may serve in Christ's name.
