Description

Strengths

Strengths include: The love of God and each other as principles that make a difference in who we are. We favor the intimate nature of knowing and caring for each other in our journey to continue in a loving relationship with our Father. We want to share our talents and resources. We seek a priest to unite us in witness, working, caring, praising, loving and in joyful worship to the glory of God through Jesus Christ our Lord. We have a strong commitment to worship, and a strong commitment to the community, especially those in need. We have the ability to work together. We have a strong financial commitment and we are a welcoming, supportive, and caring community.

Challenges

Rural town with a lack of public transportation; need more job education; Hunger and poverty in the greater community; Aging parish family; difficulty attracting younger members; close proximity to larger churches.

Comments

Zion is a parish that makes everyone feel at home and welcomed. A family size parish, our congregation spans the ages ... from new-born to young-at-heart seniors, and all ages in-between. While a few of our members are summer residents only, most members attend regularly and participate in both liturgical functions as well as social and mission activities. We are financially stable and can provide housing in our rectory next to our parish hall. Beautiful Eastern NC offers much to its residents. Located on the Pamlico River, Washington has historical as well as social attractions for all ages. And it is only a short drive to the ocean for even more activities.

The members of Zion parish are a remarkable group of people who believe in God, try to follow Christ in their daily lives, and put their Christianity into action. They understand that "being church" extends beyond the buildings on Sunday and affects all of their actions throughout the week. We are not perfect, but we are working on it! Our motto is "come and see."
