Trinity is one of the largest parishes of the Diocese centered in Staunton, VA, a historically revitalized town that is home to the American Shakespeare Theater - 45 minutes over the Blue Ridge from Charlottesville and UVA. We have an historic church and beautiful facility with rectory large enough for 5 and a vibrant music program.
We at Trinity offer a loving, open door to all people, regardless of where you are in your faith journey. Our faith centers on God in three persons—Father, Son, and Holy Spirit—and his boundless love for all. We value the dignity of all human beings, whether they are married, divorced, widowed, single, partnered, with children or without; our welcome knows no boundaries of age, race, ethnicity, culture, gender, sexual orientation, physical or mental ability, religious affiliation, or economic status.
-to welcome and encourage all in our journey with Christ
-to provide a loving, active environment for Christian worship, learning and service
-to utilize our Episcopal heritage and our unique gifts, resources and blessings as a witness in the community.
We seek a rector who demonstrates preaching excellence. We appreciate succinct, intelligent sermons that are understandable and relatable. At the 8:45 service, an interactive gospel reflection generally takes the place of a traditional sermon. At all services, parishioners expect thought-provoking, challenging preaching, and enjoy some humor as well.
Our rector should prioritize pastoral care, to all different ages. We desire someone who is personable, caring, loving, and interested in knowing parishioners and in their well-being. We seek a rector who can attract young families, as well as someone who visits the aged and infirm.
Stewardship is a priority, and the rector should have previous success in fundraising. The ability to lead stewardship efforts is essential to maintaining and growing current programs, hiring additional clergy and staff, and helping Trinity better to meet the needs of others for years to come.
Music is an important aspect of life at Trinity and music appreciation is expected. The rector should treasure our music programs and support them to the best of his/her ability. Ideally, he/she would be able to chant the Eucharist and participate in choral Evensong services.
Our next rector will need to lead us to engage 21st century American Church realities and forge a way forward building on the gifts of our tradition while following the Holy Spirit in a new era.
