Description

Strengths

Saint Luke & The Epiphany is spirit-filled – a place where people come to find connection, hope, and healing. We are as diverse a congregation as creation itself. Many who choose us as their spiritual home speak of the moments they were welcomed or found healing. They discovered something they needed, shelter and solace, warmth and welcome, comfort and joy. The same members now provide this experience to others, offering the hospitality and acceptance that is part of our fabric and our foundation. We have been blessed with wonderful leadership, and we are looking forward prayerfully and eagerly to our next chapter. Our recently retired rector led us with love for nearly 40 years. As a result, we are well prepared to reflect on our strengths and consider the many possibilities for our next leader, for our congregation, and for those who are about to discover us.

Challenges

Like many Episcopal churches, finances continue to be a challenge. We are blessed with healthy pledging by parishioners, as well as an endowment, but rising personnel costs and operating and upkeep costs on our 180-year-old building make up most of our budget and leave little for outreach. Additionally, though attendance and giving have been steady for the last decade, we are continually challenged to grow and connect with our surrounding neighborhood.

Comments

Our church and rectory are located in the heart of a dynamic neighborhood in Center City Philadelphia where world-class restaurants, arts and cultural institutions, and shopping are within walking distance.
