Description

Strengths

  • Active Lay Participation
  • Strong Ministry Leadership
  • Music program for adults and children
  • Gender and multi-generational diversity
  • Strong Adult Education
  • Liturgy:  "We are a mix, with an emphasis on joyful liturgy"

St Thomas has grown from strength to strength during the past decade.  We are excited about the next phase of our growth, as we undertake three regular Sunday services.  A willingness to teach--and to learn from others--are essential characteristics that we look for in our clergy.  We value the traditions of our liturgy, and hope our next curate will be willing to learn some of our unique traditions, while also teach us new traditions to take us into the future.  The vision statement, developed by St. Thomas the year after our rector arrived, is at the heart of who we are:  All welcome--no exceptions--to worship, love, serve and grow.

Challenges

  • New member stewardship
  • Undergraduate participation on Sunday
  • Retaining the enthusiasm of teenage boys

Position Summary:  St. Thomas seeks to appoint a curate straight from seminary.  This is a teaching position, in a parish committed to lifelong learning.  We hope to learn much from our curate.  In turn we will provide a good grounding in a vibrant range of ministry.  St. Thomas is geographically situated in the heart of Dartmouth College, Hanover, NH, and has a thriving campus ministry.  We are also an active parish with a wide ranging demographic that includes many young families and seniors.  Our curate will help us live into our vision of:  "All welcome--no exceptions--to worship, love, service and grow."  We are looking for someone who is willing to grow and to help us grow.  St. Thomas recently added a third morning service to its Sunday offering.  We are looking for someone who is energetic, faithful and inquisitive.  Members of St. Thomas experience liturgy as transformative and value clergy who are pastoral and who pay attention to the small details of life--the windows onto eternity.  The successful candidate will have an enthusiasm for sharing God's love inside and outside the physical building of the church.

Candidates who would like to know more before applying are encouraged to reach out to our Rector,  the Rev. Dr. Guy Collins, for an informal conversation:  guy.collins@dartmouth.edu
