Description
Strengths
A vibrant parish in a quiet resort community with a number of retirees from the DC/Baltimore area who are eager to use their time and talent to fulfill the parish's mission. Lots of energy for learning and growing, very open to new ideas. Parishioners are active in the community and many have now or in the recent past held leadership positions in the diocese. Financially stable, with strong lay leadership. They have embraced "Invite, Welcome, Connect" and are welcoming of different backgrounds, beliefs, races, and sexual orientations. St. Martha's is a place of vibrant spiritual growth that highly values lifelong learning and deepening faith. It is a place where deep and lasting friendships are formed, and is very active in community ministries in Sussex County. The community expands significantly in the summer months.
Challenges
St. Martha's is relatively new parish that has had only two tenured rectors, One of the key items from its recent Holy Cow survey was the hunger for a deeper sense of mission and their particular identity as a Christ-centered community of faith. They eagerly await a new rector who will partner with them as they grow more deeply into their mission and identity.
