Description
Strengths
St. Luke's is excited to create this position focused on the "55 & Better" population. The congregation has discerned a need for ministry to support the spiritual lives of those in retirement. The rector imagines that this position will be responsible for such endeavors as fellowship activities, discernment of ministry in retirement, making connections among those who are post-active (beyond just home communion visits).
The parish has some connections to the senior services community in Kalamazoo and wants more of the same.
St. Luke's is an open and affirming congregation; Women, people of color, and LGBTQ candidates are warmly encouraged to inquire.
Challenges
Current funding is available for a half-time position for 18 months. The rector believes that once the person is in place, more funding will materialize, both through partnerships and through parish giving. The rector's goal is for the position to transition to full-time within 24 to 36 months.
Self-differentiation will be a key quality for the successful candidate.
