Strengths

St. Luke’s is an open, inclusive, and loving church. We extend a warm welcome to those who:

  • Wish to explore Christianity with a perspective different from the church of their upbringing.
  • Seek a spiritual community that does not judge who you love.
  • Wish to explore a more modern, open-minded and enlightened Christian path.
  • Seek to worship within a church community which values and practices a ritual and liturgy that is still vibrant, full of life, and meaningful today.

St. Luke’s uses their resources responsibly, making it possible to meet our financial obligations.  In the past decade, the Vestry has invested over $1 million in renovations and restorations including American Disabilities Act (ADA) compliance.

Challenges

THINGS THAT ARE CRITICALLY IMPORTANT TO US

  1. Private Nursery School on Church Property. St Luke’s is the landlord for a private Nursery School occupying space in the basement level of our parish hall. Most importantly, the rent that the school pays to St. Luke’s accounts for one-third of our annual budget.
  2. Obtaining a balanced budget. While we do not expect our new clergy partner to have all of the answers to all of our issues, there is general concern among the Vestry and parishioners that we have functioned at budget deficits for the past several years.
  3. Improving communications. St. Luke’s needs to improve communications on several levels: Within our parish office structure; in our outreach to our parishioners; and in our outreach to our local community. Some necessary steps have already been taken

Comments

We look forward to working with our new clergy partner to expand our parish and develop a youth ministry that will be meaningful in today's world.  St. Luke’s is a known entity in Metuchen and we wish to find ways to meet people where they are, both in their secular and spiritual life.
