St. John's is a very active parish with superb lay support. They have had part-time clergy leadership for over a decade, and they see that as an opportunity rather than a failure. They are very active in the Diocese, and take advantage of all programs for small parishes and congregational development. Their leadership is committed to caring for their members as well as the larger community.
They are comfortable with bi-vocational priests, and they understand the boundaries needed for clergy who have other obligations. They are a grateful community and take great joy in Christ and one another.
Like all mainline parishes, St. John's Sodus is reckoning with questions of politics and diversity in the current social climate. They are located in the middle of an agricultural area served by migrant labor. There is also significant poverty in the region. They want to respond and be active with the entire community, and someone with experience in growing relationships across social, political and racial boundaries would be welcome!
This is the "little parish that could." They are easy going, enthusiastic, and creative. For a bi-vocational priest, or someone who is retired, this could be a wonderful cure.
