We are an active parish. We knit baby hats and blankets for newborns at our local hospital. We have become a large distributor of food in our neighborhood with our weekly food pantry. Pre-Covid we gave out lots of food, post-Covid we provide enough food for up to 100 families week. In coordination with the Lord’s Pantry our Jumble Shoppe provides donated, gently used, clothes and housewares to our community. Additionally they help the Homeless and Hospitality Center’s and Covenant Shelter’s newly housed clients restock their wardrobes and kitchens. All proceeds from the JS are donated to ministries near and far. At our most recent tag sale all proceeds were given to Start Fresh to assist in resettling a new refugee family from Afghanistan in New London. St. James is not a parish where 15% of the parish do 85% of the work. More than half us use our God given talents to further the work of God through St. James.

We are an older parish. The other half of us not actively serving are unable to because we are no longer driving or are not as physically mobile anymore or cannot risk community involvement due to weakened immune systems and the Covid threat. We are used to be being well cared for by our Faith in Action committee members as well as our previous priests with visits and calls. Visits are more limited in this pandemic but calls and cards are still made.

Currently church school and children's choir are on hiatus due to Covid, to the disappointment of many.

We are a forward looking, multi-cultural and inclusive faith community, proclaiming and doing Christ's work of love and justice in the greater New London area and the world.
