Description
Liturgical style and practice
On Sundays, we celebrate the Eucharist at 8:00 and 10:00 am. Both services follow the traditional Rite II liturgy with music from our talented organist and hymns sung by the congregation. We also embrace the Rite I liturgy and are open to rotation between the rites. The liturgical practice at St. Ignatius of Antioch is theologically conservative, embracing a broader range of views and perspectives across our community. Sunday worship is central to the parish and includes an 8 am and 10 am service, each with about twenty attendees. Sunday services are also available on Zoom, a practice that began during the COVID pandemic and has successfully supported those shut-in by medical or family situations. We have enjoyed a variety of Supply Priests during our time of transition, and the variety of their styles and personal backgrounds has been welcomed by parishioners.
Strengths
St. Ignatius is a “Small church with powerful presence.” On our 100th anniversary, July 11, 2015, the parish was depicted as a small church that makes a significant impact on our community. St. Ignatius is, quite literally, a shining beacon on a hill, whose ministry is felt throughout the community.
Challenges
Our Key Priorities include:
Attract and minister to new families with children and youth
Connect with new people and involve them in our church life
Grow in our formation as Christians
Comments
St. Ignatius of Antioch is in search of a full-time rector. Each Sunday, the congregation worships using Rite II liturgies during two services with an average Sunday attendance in the 40’s, and several attendees via the hybrid Zoom service. The main focus of the congregation is outreach, with the focus on their resale shop. The resale shop is served by volunteers from within the congregation and from the community, enhancing the bond between those worshipping members and the wider Antioch area. Fellowship and formation are other key areas of focus for the members of St. Ignatius, who seek to learn and grow together, while also seeking to grow the congregation. The next rector of St. Ignatius should value tradition, and lead the congregation to new ideas and purposes while helping to recruit new and diverse members.
