Description
Strengths
St. Gabriel’s possesses a caring, and diverse community of worshipers who respect, value, and celebrate the multi-ethnic traditions of our congregants. We are endowed with properties, such as, a Church Rectory, a Curate’s House, a Parish House which is the Woodhull School and playground, and a parking lot. These assets form the mainstay of our income, apart from pledges. There is an advantage in its location, since it is easily accessible by public transportation, and is within close proximity to educational institutions, such as, schools, colleges, universities, and libraries.
Challenges
St. Gabriel’s, however, is not without its challenges. Ministries, which are integral to further the mission of the church, have become inactive. Also, the youth population, which is vital in the expansion of the church, has decreased considerably. It is our vision, not only to reactivate these ministries, but also, to create programs at the Woodhull School, in order to stimulate new growth within the church community. Notwithstanding these areas, St. Gabriel’s is seeking a priest who will, with God’s help, guide us as “the great Church victorious,” according to the songwriter, Samuel John Stone, to meet the challenges in and out of a pandemic.
