Description

Strengths

St. Brendan the Navigator is a small congregation on beautiful Deer Isle, Maine, serving both a thriving summer community of people from all over the east coast and beyond, and a quieter and sparser year-round community, many retired and “from away.” St. Brendan’s has strong and spirited lay leadership, an innovative approach to liturgy, and a passion for social justice and other forms of outreach ministry. This position offers an opportunity for an engaging and substantive ministry. St. Brendan’s seeks someone who embraces diversity of thought and opinions to lead them forward. The congregation is eager for an able and confident priestly presence.

Challenges

In the last decade St. Brendan's bought a church building for the first time, and carried out major renovations which ended up costing much more than anticipated.  There has been major conflict within the congregation and, while careful leadership during the period since the departure of the former rector has helped a lot, the next priest for St. Brendan's will need to be ready to engage with the remnants of that conflict.
