Strengths

At St Barnabas, we feel that we are truly a family and most of us call it our church family. Like any family, we recognize that we are not of one but various molds. This recognition, our sense of community and our faith and belief that we are covered by God’s grace enriches us and allows the following:
1. To recognize and appreciate the way God has moved and continues to move in our
church.
2. The willingness to give generously of time, talent and treasure to meet the needs of thode
within and currently outside of our immediate church family with our St Barnabas ‘Can
Do’ attitude.
3. An openness to learn about and try to understand each other.

Challenges

St Barnabas is challenged with an aging demographic which results in fewer people able to donate time for activities that could attract younger parishioners to grow the church but with the aid of online streaming for services and meetings, we have strived to make our services inclusive of all who cannot be physically present at the church. This has also enabled more people participate in sessions we have held at church to prepare our parishioners for the world we live in with Cyber-awareness and Active Shooter training sessions. Another challenge we have is diminishing finances which has led us to do a lot in-house by the parishioners to reduce expenses and to look for sustainable ways of reducing expenses.

Comments

St Barnabas has formed an affiliation with St Francis, Dunellen and we have formed a good
relationship using our St Barnabas strengths as listed. We will be looking to find a priest who would be dynamic enough to manage this new arrangement. We have been without a priest for a while and where we know that nothing is guaranteed, we will be praying and looking for a priest who will be committed to staying with our churches.
