St. Augustine's Episcopal church is one of the historic Black churches of the diocese of New Jersey.  St. Augustine's is a vibrant congregation with strong connections, relationships and ministries in the wider community of Atlantic City, and will serve as host to NAACP youth convention, is a life time member of UBE and the larger church.

  • We are the only Episcopal Church on Absecon Island. There were 5 and 1 seasonal (4 have closed)
  • We are resilient – we rebuilt and returned to church after a devastating fire destroyed the building in 2004
  • We have been involved in community outreach (NARCO now The John Brooks Institute for Human Development) Local drug rehabilitation center got its start at our church. Community organizations continue to meet at the church.
  • Central location - very accessible - walking distance from hotel/casinos, 2 blocks from bus station, four blocks from train station

Dedicated vestry and committed congregation


  • Some congregants might compare the New Priest to Previous Priest (some people resist change)
  • Mental Health Issues (Church is close to local homeless shelter, often we have “visitors” from the surrounding community)
  • Financial resources are constant, however they could be healthier
