Description
Liturgical style and practice
Our current liturgical style is not very formal. We celebrate Holy Communion 3 times on Sunday, at 8:30am at St. Mark’s Chapel, at 10:00am at Holy Innocents and again at 5:00pm at Holy Innocents for a brief (1/2 hour) informal, interactive service. We conduct a weekday Communion service for cadets as part of Canterbury Club, and conduct Sunday Communion services for those engaged in battlefield training during the summer. They are greatly appreciated. We have experimented with incorporating Spanish language into our 10:00am service.
Strengths
We are community centered, with a thrift shop, food pantry, community winter market, community Thanksgiving Dinner (feeding over 200) and community garden. We believe in our vision and mission statement. Our Vision: We are a Christ-Centered Community of Compassion. Our Mission is to share God’s love through worship, nurture and witness to this diverse and dynamic community and to provide sanctuary in a changing world. We all get along quite well. Everyone seems to get a lot out of our commitment to the church and working together as a Christian Community.
Challenges
Like many churches in our community, committed congregants are dying off. Our challenge is to become significant to new demographics, ethnic and social, including the rapidly growing Spanish-speaking population and enlisted military personnel who need a church home.
