Holy Comforter is a vibrant, active and welcoming faith community that combines its rich history with a reputation for being an incubator and innovator of ministry, a place where important ministries are born and take root in the wider community.
Since its inception in 1903, Holy Comforter has been an active member of the community. We have supported the founding of other area Episcopal parishes, as well as several organizations that provide ongoing service to our city, such as Boy Scout Troop 1 (1917), the Holy Comforter Weekday School (1955), the Charlotte Loaves and Fishes pantry (1975) and La Escuelita Bilingual Preschool (2009). Our parish has fully supported the establishment of two area Episcopal schools: Trinity Episcopal and Palisades Episcopal.
Under the leadership of our clergy, the parishioners of Holy Comforter continue to actively engage in ministry, gather in fellowship, be welcoming to all, and worship in thanksgiving for the abundance of God.
Following a long serving well loved Associate Rector
The Episcopal Church of the Holy Comforter, Charlotte NC
Exciting City? Yes. Many and varied opportunities for ministry? You bet. Diverse and welcoming community? It’s our identity. Opportunity to use your specific gifts to build the body of Christ? We want to make a difference.
The Rector and Vestry of The Episcopal Church of the Holy Comforter, Charlotte, in the Diocese of North Carolina, invite applications for the full-time position of Associate Rector.
We are seeking a full-time priest to join our leadership team who has a passion to increase our ministry within and beyond our church walls. Our candidate will develop and share their own spiritual strengths while helping our members to celebrate and share their own. Our candidate will also be invited to share creative new programming that plays to their own strengths. Specific areas of ministry will be assigned depending on gifts, calling, and experience.
We at Holy Comforter live out our mission and vision by emulating the life and example of Jesus Christ within and beyond our parish walls. We are seeking someone to join our collaborative staff of nine that oversees a powerfully and wonderfully lay-involved parish in ministries that celebrate our diverse gifts. Areas our Associate will strengthen include liturgy and worship, pastoral care, formation (youth and/or adult), and service to our neighbors; including our food pantry, housing the homeless in the winter, and Latinx ministries.
We are a joyful people that aspire to model our individual and parish life on the life and teachings of Jesus Christ. We are a parish of difference, and seek out and develop those differences to empower us to serve a diverse population in varied and vibrant ways. Our liturgy leans toward contemporary, our music program is bold, our welcome is warm, y celebramos en espanol. We are resurrection people who celebrate diversity and accept people no matter where they are in their life and faith journey. We are joyful with God’s abundant grace and open to share our selves with others.
Holy Comforter has an average Sunday attendance of 275 across three services, two in English and one in Spanish. The ability to lead worship and communicate in Spanish is a desired skill in our new Associate Rector. Holy Comforter is located two miles south of the center of a fast growing and exciting city with many additional opportunities for ministry. Holy Comforter is searching not so much for a saint of the John or Paul or Augustine variety; but rather for a Mark, Mary Magdalene, Bartholomew, Julian, Stephen, or Clare. If you find yourself in this description, we would enjoy hearing from you.
