Grace Church is situated in a vibrant community, and Grace sees itself as a community poised for an incredible future. The congregation is gifted with lay leadership from a variety of backgrounds well-equipped for new and expanded ministry opportunities. Nearby Calvin University has been a source of new and seeking Christians, and Grace has been delighted to welcome seekers as they journey with us. Grace has recently made good progress in reform of financial practices in order to live within their means after a long period of spending down legacy funds.
Our congregation is under no illusions that we have challenges to solve. Parishioners are concerned that declining finances and membership could lead to closure. Some are concerned about spiritual drift and/or becoming too political, and some are concerned about leadership fatigue.
When we asked the congregation how Grace Church can be challenged to grow, the answers were varied. The most common response was for new leadership that is dynamic, pastoral, and practical. We need someone to help us find a vision and a call to action as a parish, including engaging those of all ages both within our parish and in our community. Other responses suggested that we try new ideas, including sharing space and new ways of worship.
