Family…how members frequently describe our parish…we support one another through conflict, joy, challenge.
Lay ministry and involvement…a towering strength…ask anyone. Anyone. Over 30 lay-led ministries.
A different kind of stewardship…a legacy deeply impacting our diocese and parish. Three of us called to the diaconate, three vibrant ministries. By definition, we gave up these beloved family members…painful. Yet God has blessed our diocese (ask our Bishop) and our parish immeasurably (let us tell the story!).
Our community…Small town Pitman, walkable downtown…excellent restaurants. Rowan University next door. Less than 100 minutes to the Jersey Shore, Philadelphia, NYC and DC.
Our rectory…across the street, in great shape, in the community.
Youth education/ministry…Our youth education and programs have been strong…blessed with dedicated/resourceful champions for our youth, and with tremendous love and support from our rectors. Yet this is not a place where any parish truly "arrives.” The ever-changing landscape (technology, social media, society, pandemic) begets ever-changing challenges/opportunities. We are looking for another great partner in loving our kids and helping to continually raise up new champions.
Involvement with the diocese…not our traditional posture, but we want to improve… so much to offer…so much to benefit from.
Lay ministry…we’re looking for a partner to continue raising up and supporting those who can vision, organize, run, lead, support, and be present.
At Church of the Good Shepherd, our mission is to know and embrace Jesus Christ and to share God’s love with our neighbors as a welcoming community. We are a vibrant, pastoral-sized parish that is open-minded and adaptable, prayerfully considering our multigenerational traditions. Our style is in the middle of the spectrum of Episcopal liturgy. We seek the presence of Christ in our everyday life. We offer two weekly services with communion, plus Morning Prayer on two weekdays. We have a talented group of lay leaders that support over 30 active ministries, but we are keen on growing our ministries, and expanding opportunities, both in-person and remote. There is something for everyone here! We invite you to see our website for more details.
