We are blessed at Christ Episcopal Church with many gifts and blessings.  These gifts often indicate a parallel challenge, however.  For instance, our congregation is a group of caring, committed volunteers who tirelessly give time and resources for the betterment of our church and our community.  This group is slowly shrinking and aging.  Sometimes we cannot do everything we once did, or it may be more difficult to do so.  Similarly, our location in the heart of Downtown Madison is a tremendous strength.  We are easily accessible and central.  Our ministries to those in need are located exactly where they should be.  However, our location also has us boxed in with no room to expand.  We have no off-street or restricted parking for those unable to walk to church, and while this is not usually an issue on Sunday mornings, during some of the larger festivals in Madison it can sometimes be difficult to park near the church.  Our facility is a wonderfully historic group of buildings and grounds.  They are attractive, functional, and historically significant.  The aging facilities are experiencing rising maintenance costs and more frequent instances of needed repairs.  While we do not know exactly how God will call us to overcome the challenges of an aging congregation, a lack of room for expansion and deteriorating facilities, we look to The Book of Common Prayer and are assured that, “We will, with God’s help!”

Our prayer is to find a faith leader who will join us as we strive to grow in faith, following the example of Christ, strengthen our community outreach and impact, continue our rich tradition of inclusivity, develop our engagement with members of all ages, and value the unique wisdom of our aging parishioners and lay leaders.

We’re a congregation that prides itself on a rich history that includes our historical church and rectory nestled among award-winning gardens. Christ Church provides a respectful and accepting environment that welcomes parishioners from diverse social and cultural backgrounds to worship God together.

We fervently hope to find an energetic, optimistic rector with an appreciation for our uniquely historic Church and town, while joining us as we continue to expand our progressive influence in the beautiful community of Madison, and grow together in our Christian faith.

We pray that this 3/4 time position will enable the right candidate to fully embrace and explore the many social and cultural opportunities that our vibrant community offers.
