Description

Strengths

Christ Church is a remarkably stable community with deep roots in terms of parishioners’ attachments to one another and to traditions shared with the universal church as well as traditions that we have adopted locally that are unique to our parish. Christ Church has been blessed with a healthy endowment and the generous giving of tithes and offerings by members--blessings sometimes rare in other parishes. Sensitive to Jesus’ words in Luke 12:48, “To whom much is given, much will be required,” we desire a priest who supports the work that we are currently doing through our Christian Social Outreach program (funding ministries and social service agencies locally and abroad), parish mission trips to Guatemala, food assistance programs, as well as new forms of ministry to which the Holy Spirit may be calling us.

Challenges

We need to find new and creative ways to engage our youth. Christ Church has always had a strong youth program, but it is getting more challenging each year as we find ourselves competing with the multitude of other commitments the world places on today’s youth. We need to offer these children programs that are relatable to their lives and will further their understanding of their faith and the world around them.

We also need to find better ways to stay connected with our older generation. In these uncertain times, we need to find better ways to support the most vulnerable among us. This starts with enhancing our online presence, conducting home visits, and outreach calls to people in our community who are not able to be with us in person.

Additionally, we need to expand our adult formation offerings. Too often our educational focus is solely on the children, but we also have a community of adults who have questions and concerns. We need to make sure we have programs to help nourish them during their faith journey.

Comments

We embrace the way God communicates His faithfulness and acceptance through the sacraments of baptism and the Eucharist. We also acknowledge the value of other expressions of Grace within the Body such as the close committed relationships that develop among parish members, the careful rearing of children, and the gift of music. We seek a priest who will support parish goals of having strong youth, family, adult formation, and music programs.

We also appreciate the way God’s love is channeled through the church to those outside the parish by our sharing of resources with which we have been blessed. These may be resources of time, talents, money, and space, as when we share our buildings with other groups.

We seek a priest who appreciates these various forms of ministry and who will nurture the spiritual growth of the laity to better equip them for God’s work of restoration and reconciliation in the world.

We can offer our priest a comfortable salary, benefits, and a beautiful rectory with space that could easily accommodate a family. In addition, Christ Church is situated in a rural area of Connecticut that is rich in natural beauty and blessed with excellent schools.

We pray for a priest who will grow with us in grace and in doing the Lord’s work, someone we will open our arms to and who will become an integral part of our Christ Church family.
