Liturgical style and practice

Our Sunday morning worship is a mix of the traditional and the contemporary: our music (played on our stellar tracker pipe organ, a deeply resonating Steinway piano, occasionally a harpsichord, or with drumming accompaniment and other instruments, with choir or soloists) is steeped in the classics, our worship is a play of progressive language texts (usually the “Enriching Our Worship” prayer forms) interspersed with the Episcopal church’s Book of Common Prayer and newly composed prayers. We pray utilizing both The Book of Common Prayer Rite II options and Enriching Our Worship materials. On Sunday afternoons on the first Sunday of the month, we have held music meditations including new compositions that explore creative relationships with the divine.

Strengths

  • Faith and fellowship, coming together for worship in sound historic building
  • thriving thrift shop
  • a parish dedicated to worship of God surrounded by the White Mountains

Challenges

  • Transition in clergy leadership
  • aging membership
  • limited space for new programs

Comments

We are curious about growing our lay leadership so that we can be a truly bivocational clergy and parish

We are considering alterations to our worship space to make it more flexible

We have seen recent growth in membership

We offer a unique opportunity for someone who is called to ministry in a rural setting - we are surrounded by exquisite mountains and rivers, there is skiing, hiking, fly fishing, and kayaking close at hand, and the coast of Maine is just 1.5 hours drive.
