Description

Additional comments re: compensation, benefits and housing.

The $84,000 is the TAC

Liturgical style and practice

one service with praise band in a parish hall; one with organ in the historic church

Strengths

They did a good job on their OTM. Strong community committed to their church.

Church is in the heart of the city of Westminster, about 35 miles northwest of Baltimore.

Challenges

A beloved musician was discovered to be a registered sex offender (RSO). On the advice of the diocese, the former rector told the man he would continue to be welcomed, but he could not be around children, be alone in the building, or serve in a leadership capacity. The strongly evangelical community thought this was un-Christian since the RSO had confessed. The conflict let the rector to look elsewhere; the interim says there's still some fall-out.

Westminster is in a conservative county, but the search committee and vestry are committed to finding a priest who's willing to perform same-sex marriages.

Comments

This position re-opened after an "empty net" scenario. (The finalist just didn't feel a call.)

The vestry and search committee are not at all discouraged. The diocese will pass along each new candidate for them to consider, so a decision may be made well in advance of the posted "closing date."
