All Saints is a strong, healthy, vibrant community with a clear sense of identity and purpose. They are deeply connected to each other and the wider community, place a high value of social justice, outreach, and racial reconciliation, and have exceptional lay leadership.
All Saints' 26 year rector left in 2019 to become the bishop of Michigan. The church has done good work in the interim time, and is eager to begin a new chapter with their next rector. See 'Comments' section below for more info.
It is often challenging to follow a long-term rector whose tenure was quite strong. The next rector needs to not be intimidated by that, but rather see opportunity to continue building on strengths.
Parish profile identifies these challenges/opportunities:
- Continue engaging deeply in anti-racism and social justice work
- Spiritual growth and nourishment – create more opportunities for adult spiritual formation, inner work on anti-racism, better ways to welcome newcomers, and attention to our virtual and physical church spaces
- Exploring how building infrastructure could be re-imagined and utilized for above goals
From their posting: All Saints’ is a joyful, welcoming, inclusive, and prayerful Christian community that seeks to embody the love of God for all people in and outside of its church community. Theologically, All Saints’ is progressive and embraces open discourse and intellectual curiosity.
The congregation is seeking a rector who is high-energy, willing to go out and engage directly with neighbors as well as members, and highly organized. Pastoral care, outstanding preaching and the ability to work alongside lay and community leaders to address critical issues is a must. A creative priest who values Christian education for all ages, and who can delegate and share leadership while leading and teaching the congregation will be a good fit.
A core pillar of All Saints’ is a commitment to social justice and local, national, and international outreach. Additionally, a community kitchen and food pantry for neighbors in need, Ravenswood Community Services, is located on-site at All Saints’.
All Saints’ is located on the North Side of Chicago, with ready access to public transit train and bus routes. Lake Michigan and nearby parks and beaches are easily accessible and there are several nearby options for schools both for Pre-K through grade 12 and adult learning.
