Liturgical style and practice
Advent offers three services on Sunday morning. We have a traditional Rite I service without music, a shortened contemporary service, and a traditional Rite II service. During COVID, the contemporary service has been celebrated under our large oak tree during nice weather and offered as Car Communion in our parking lot using an FM radio band. Our service style is reverent, but relaxed. We appreciate joyful noises made by children and enjoy music from the Hymnal, LEVAS, and Wonder, Love & Praise. The spiritual vitality of parishioners is strong and we possess an openness to people at all stages of their spiritual journey. Theologically diverse, we appreciate and desire sermons that inspire and connect us to God’s word.
Advent is a welcoming community and enriched by those from many different walks of life. Our congregation has brought meaning to our lives, a friendly atmosphere prevails, and we show genuine concern and care for one another in times of need. Ministry to those in our congregation and to those in the world are especially important to our identity as a community of faith. We have strong spiritual vitality, diverse theological perspectives, and a desire to continue growing in our faith. Advent has strong lay leadership and support staff. The church is financially sound, and has an attractive and functional campus in a charming suburban town.
Opportunities for improvement and growth include reviewing and focusing on our mission and purpose, investing in our faith formation, and revitalizing our worship experiences. Although we are somewhat settled, we recognize the need for and desire change. Utilizing our strong lay leadership and other congregational strengths to address the goals of our Strategic Growth Plan is a priority for the future.
We seek a rector who is: an entrepreneurial priest, a warm and joyful pastor, a spiritually grounded preacher and teacher, a change facilitator, and a strategic leader.
