Description
Strengths
Church of the Good Shepherd is a positive, engaged, and energetic small parish. They are very open to change and diligent about finding new ways to serve Christ in their area. A recent addition to their ministry has been the Refugee Committee, which started as a project funded by an interested party to assist Syrian refugees in resettlement. Since its institution it has widened to include any refugee vetted through the United Nations to the Church World Service Richmond. Good Shepherd practices faith-based stewardship and, even though they are a very small congregation, they demonstrate a sincere dedication to the work of Christ.
Challenges
They are in a geographically isolated situation about an hour from Richmond, Virginia.
Comments
The church is the caretaker of Sapony Shrine, a diocesan shrine, and holds “Fifth Sunday” services there, as well as a summer congregational picnic.
