Strengths
Christ Church Greenwich is a place where God is at work and we are engaged in God’s mission. Our parish is made up of a diverse group of souls who have lived, learned and served all over the world. We are passionate leaders who are eager for challenging preaching, deeper learning and impactful service. We are a big tent and a place of welcome for all seekers. Over 870 households call our church their spiritual home. We have four wonderfully gifted and devoted clergy members, led by one of the nation’s top spiritual leaders. Each possesses unique skills and talents that have helped transform us to a church of energy, engagement, and growth. Our thriving music program with a men’s and boys’ choir, girls’ choir, adult choir and children’s choir is a beacon for both parishioners and members of the greater Greenwich community. It is led by a music director and an associate music director who are both world class organists who have made recordings and performed at concerts in the U.S. and Europe. Our pastoral care program is very active. A wonderful source of comfort, it serves powerfully as Christ’s hands and feet to members of the parish and those in need. Our Altar Guild has three teams of members who care for the sacred elements of our worship and the setting of the Lord’s table, creating spectacular flower displays all year round, but especially at the festival periods of Easter and Christmas. We offer four traditional worship services on Sundays and offer Morning Prayer, Evening Prayer or a Eucharist throughout the week. Our 10-acre campus and recently renovated buildings serve the wider Greenwich community by offering meeting space for outside learning and many 12 step programs. Our campus hosts over 3,000 meetings a year, which we consider a crucial part of our ministry. Our main sanctuary is a beautiful and sacred space for mediation and worship. Our bookstore is a lively place for the parish and community to gather for greater learning or just a peaceful cappuccino, and has become the de facto welcome center for the church, serving a pastoral role as the first point of contact for many entering our doors. Our children are cared for through our church school program, youth program and choir and acolyte ministries. Our parish also offers adults the opportunity to deepen their faith with Bible studies, Education for Ministry, Prayer of the Cloud (a centering prayer group), our Courage and Faith speaker series and the Faith on Fire series. Our faith in action programs have been reimagined and are energizing our parish to take our faith out into the broader world. Our biggest strength is our people. We learn, worship, comfort and celebrate together. We are deeply committed to embracing the needs of others in Greenwich and around the world. We have faith that God will lead us to someone who will treasure the opportunity to be our pastor and partner, to love and care for us and who will be loved and supported in return.
Challenges
Any community as large and culturally, economically, spiritually and geographically diverse as ours faces challenges. Our church is a big place though things can be messy at times we are all joined together in faith. While we enjoy many blessings at Christ Church there are many other ways we would like to see our parish grow. Our faith in action program has been revitalized and is growing and yet we would like to accelerate that growth and partner with other churches in Greenwich to make an impact on the town and the world. Our children’s and youth ministries have grown under new leadership over the last two years yet we continue to seek to better equip our children with a strong spiritual foundation to prepare them for life in an increasingly secular world. Our education opportunities could be more broadly appealing and connected to our mission. We would like to expand programs to include the whole family as well as individual seekers. An Anti-racism and Healing task force is in the process of forming. Over sixty parishioners have signed up to participate and will be involved in deep discussions on race, advocacy, diversity, and other aspects of this important work. Our communications with the parish have improved with the hiring of a Director of Marketing and Communications. In the future, we would like to become even more tech savvy. We want to keep learning about and experimenting with new technologies that will expand our relationships with each other and the community. Our stewardship offerings should be more inclusive so that people who give at every level feel treasured and appreciated. Our congregation is made up of serious Christians who are seeking to live out their baptismal covenants. We await with eager anticipation strong, engaging sermons that are rooted in the Gospel. We seek an associate rector who will plunge into the pool of Greenwich, who will participate not only in church life but also in the life of the community.
Comments
Jesus Christ came to heal our broken world. Our modern society is gripped by an epidemic of loneliness. Our neighbors are reeling from a wave of racism and discrimination. Our children cannot find safety in schools that are beset with shootings and suicides. Refugees seek safety and a permanent home. One antidote to so much suffering is a community of faith that seeks to share God's mission of love and reconciliation for all people. All around us, people yearn for a life of joy and abundant love. Who can show it to them? We can. How can we do it? With a partner who can lead us. Together we can lay the foundation for a world that serves Christ in all persons. A world that respects the dignity of every human being and offers a spiritual home to all. We need a leader and partner to help us play to our strengths and shore up our weaknesses, a leader who combines executive and pastoral gifts that will combine their executive and pastoral gifts while encouraging and challenging the parish to celebrate the Word of God and the presence of Christ in our lives both within the parish and beyond its bounds.
