Strengths

St. Thomas has been in a period of transition for three years following the disrupted ministry of a former Rector.  Led by a capable, healing Interim Rector, the parish is now poised for growth and stability.  Leadership is focused on building relationships across the generations of people in the parish to strengthen their identity and mission in Dover.

The church is situated in a prime area of Dover, NH accessible by foot to the downtown area.  There is enormous potential for connecting to various populations in the city, including young people who live near the church.  St. Thomas is part of the seacoast region and is in easy driving distance of the coast.

St. Thomas is known for its charism of feeding people, hosting a weekly Cafe in between the two church services!

Challenges

The property of the church and parish house (now connected by a parish hall) will require attention and maintenance.  A new Rector should expect to plan and implement a Capital Campaign in a few years to align the space and mission of the church.

There is a history of conflict in the church that has been addressed by the current Interim and diocesan staff.  It will be important to have a Rector who is aware of interpersonal dynamics, Safe Church and boundary-keeping for the continued health of this parish.
