Strengths

"Through our process of searching for a new rector for St.Paul’s, we have developed a deeper understanding of who we are as a parish family. Five roundtable or listening sessions were conducted where parishioners shared their stories about why they came to St. Paul’s and why they continue to attend this church. Additionally, we contacted some members by phone and visited others in their homes. We talked about what we considered to be the strengths of our parish and some of the things we do well. Similarly, we discussed areas where there is a perceived need to improve as well as opportunities where we might be able to live out our mission statement more effectively. We envisioned what our church might look like five years from now. We considered the skills and attributes of our next Rector, the person who will lead us and work with us as we continue our journey to 'seek and serve.' "

Challenges

St. Paul’s has an aging congregation, as is the case with many churches. We look to add younger people and families to our rolls. How do we do this? How might we become relevant to those who currently do not attend church?

Possible approaches or suggestions gleaned from our listening sessions include:

•offering a contemporary worship service held at a time not traditionally devoted to worship services,

•moving toward a more contemporary musical style,

•developing Christian formation programs for all age groups,

•strengthening the relationship between parents and teachers of St. Anne’s and the church,

•communicating within the parish has greatly improved with the recent hiring of a Program Director and consultation with a media specialist; our communication techniques and list of contacts require ongoing attention,

•promoting the use of our facilities within our community would be one possible way to attract new members.
