Solid lay leadership with well-organized ministries, decent choir, building in good shape. Beautiful island (although it is only a bridge away from the mainland) perfect for someone who loves water, sailing, etc. Relaxed village life. Population of the island is 5,400 with summer visitors. Generally have a couple of military families who come and go (a plus and a challenge) -- they are used to jumping in quickly but also tend to leave in 2-4 years.
Rising home prices makes it hard for families to live here -- so declining number of children and youth on the island. On the other hand, more older adults and ample opportunity to expand ministry with that demographic -- educated, retired professionals engaged in outreach, formation, etc.
Departing rector was out on family leave during last year so congregation member took on many of the responsibilities normally done by clergy and are ready to have a priest fully present. That said, this has strengthed lay leadership.
