St. Mary’s is a strategic pastoral sized parish located within the three largest school districts on Long Island and the most highly populated area in Suffolk County. The Church has a strong Cursillo tradition and a deep awareness of Christ’s action in their lives, in worship and outreach ministry. They are looking to develop their Folk Mass into a contemporary worship experience reaching out to millennials and families.  Sunday School is active and meets between Sunday morning 8:00 and 10: 15 services and the latter service is attended by people of all ages. Outreach includes a Friday Food Pantry, Playtime Nursery School, and a thrift shop.

The congregation is seeking a leader who will assist them to reach out into the community, to build the Sunday School and Youth, share the gospel in word and action, help them deepen as Christians and to grow their parish.

All of St. Mary's challenges are big opportunities.

  • Growing Latino population.
  • Needs to develop on-line presence.
  • Transforming/adapting Cursillo culture to contemporary outreach sensibilities.
  • Deep in the opioid crisis in Long Island.
  • Re-engagement with surrounding communities.
  • Re-engagement with the Diocese.
  • Church is LGbTQ friendly but surrounding community not as welcoming.

This is a great parish that is poised for growth and is strategically placed mid-island in eastern Long Island. They value family ministry and seek to be a solid presence of Christ's love to the surrounding community.

They want to be an increasingly outward facing congregation and an energized, extroverted person willing to engage community ministry partners and to lead community evangelism would be a great fit.
