Strengths

St. Mark's mission includes welcoming all regardless of race, sexual orientation or religious belief.  They have always been a church to strive to be an example to others as we follow God's teachings and do his work -- "love your neighbor as yourself."  They were our first Integrity-affiliated church.  They have had a history of collaborative clergy leadership.

Challenges

They are more of a blue-collar parish, and their history of inclusiveness and creativity - though prophetic for our diocese - is no longer unique.  They will need to discover and develop new ways of standing out among the other 3 churches in the Hampton, VA area.  They are experiencing some downturn in resources for ministry, as many churches have.

Comments

St. Mark's is likeable, committed, and passionate.  They live out a gospel of welcoming the stranger, and in partnership with the other Episcopal churches of Hampton, they have a unique position to assist the homeless as well as respond to other needs in their part of Hampton.
