Strengths

St. Luke’s is an accepting, inclusive and loving community of worshipers largely from the one-square-mile Village of Sea Cliff with a significant number of worshipers coming from the equally small hamlets of Glen Head and Glenwood Landing. The St. Luke’s congregation reflects the demographics of these three communities.  We have many strengths as a church family and faith community. One of our greatest strengths is our mixture of young and old and those with reasonable financial resources as well as those who struggle to make ends meet. In addition, individuals, couples and families with members with diverse sexual orientations and faith backgrounds are respectfully and lovingly welcomed into our church family.  Women provide significant leadership in our church community. Equally significant is that we have a strong culture of shared responsibility and leadership at St. Luke’s.

Challenges

St. Luke’s Church is also the spiritual home to people from our adjoining City of Glen Cove which is one of only two cities located in Nassau County on Long Island.  We could be reaching more culturally diverse individuals and families from Glen Cove and beyond. Glen Cove is a wonderfully culturally diverse community of people from many ethnic backgrounds with many coming from families that have been on the North Shore of Long Island for generations and others who are new to and working hard to gain a foothold in the United States.  St. Luke’s needs to reach out into our surrounding communities and beyond to share the gifts that have been bestowed upon our church family. We are fully prepared to engage in this challenge as set forth in Ephesians 4:25:  With all humility and gentleness, with patience, bearing with one another in love, eager to maintain unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace.
