Both parishes have a strong history of community outreach. St. James organizes a Christmas toy drive as well as 2 rummage sales & actively supports the Humane Society. They also host AA meetings and support a food pantry. Throughout the year, Saint Michael’s Women’s Guild and Sunday School assemble “blessing bags” which have been given to those living in a local “Tent City” and to our veterans. In addition, St. Michael's hosts a boy scout & girl scout troop as well as coat and food drives.
Both parishes are challenged by a declining and aging population. Few young people and families are joining the parishes so both parishes are keen to attract new members. Both parishes also find that the same group of people coordinate many of the churches’ activities. A larger congregation would breathe new life into both parishes and lift the burden that some parishioners feel.
Both parishes are extremely proud of their involvement in this strategic yoking process and are committed to its success. Our vision is for our two parishes to work in tandem, sharing resources with one another, yet being ourselves together. Through the sharing of an energetic and spirited priest and the optimization of mutual finances, we look to grow and transform each parish to better serve God and bring the Holy Spirit to newcomers, all in the name of Jesus Christ.
