St. Elizabeth’s is blessed with strong lay leadership and we empower our members to serve in worship, formation and outreach.
St. E’s is fiscally sound, with no debt. Our facilities, including church, chapel and rectory, are all in working order. We recently completed a significant renovation of our sanctuary as a result of the TogetherNow Comprehensive Campaign.
Our Chapel is a historical treasure, and we regularly use it for 8am Sunday worship services from April through November. During the winter months, the 8am service is held in the Church. St. E’s has an endowment to fund the maintenance and upkeep of the Chapel.
St. E’s is able to fund an Assistant Rector ½ time position. We are currently seeking to fill this position, preferably creating an effectively full-time position in conjunction with a nearby parish.
Our Creative Worship and Creative Music Teams create new and innovative contributions to the service, and our congregation is very willing to try new ways to worship.
St. E’s offers many worship and fellowship opportunities for young and old. Our church school program is particularly attractive to new families. Youth and adult volunteers who participate in life transforming experiences, such as week-long Appalachia Service Project trips, are inspired and cherish the opportunity to serve others.
St. E’s parishioners participate in many Outreach programs beyond our campus.
Similar to trends in churches around the country, St. Elizabeth’s attendance and active roster have been slowly declining. Curiously, though, our pledges have been increasing. Our declining attendance is a concern and we would like to increase our membership and participation rates.
Although two-thirds of our households pledge at some level, our income depends heavily on a fairly small number of them. While our budget has been very sound in the past several years, we are aware that we need to continue to be fiscally responsible.
We are an accepting and inclusive community, but lack diversity in some measures. We would like to attract more varied backgrounds to our community.
Through our discernment, we have learned that we need to do better in welcoming newcomers, in teaching them what programs are available and getting them involved with our various opportunities.
Our church school is strong, but we need to create new activities for adults so they will continue to be actively involved after their children age out of church school.
Many of our members are active and many are also overstretched. We need to be sensitive to burnout and ensure broader participation.
We seek a new rector, a parish priest, to help guide us to the future. We seek a strong preacher and an approachable person dedicated to pastoral ministry.
During our discernment, one parishioner mentioned…. “If there’s one thing the new rector needs to know about St. Elizabeth’s, it’s this…. you will be smothered with love the moment you get here, so be ready for it!”
