Holy Cross in Novi Michigan (http://holycrossnovi.org/), is an open, welcoming, family-oriented worship community. We strive to practice radical hospitality and believe in social justice and inclusion for all. We enjoy spending time together as an intergenerational community and are dedicated to our outreach ministries.

We make community formation a priority with family game nights, inter-faith euchre tournaments, men’s breakfasts, ladies’ nights out, ladies’ luncheons, Sunday school for elementary and older youth; and have a wonderful and social coffee hour, pot-lucks and chili cook-offs.  Beyond our own formation, we maintain an accessible, barrier-free facility; have a flexible worship space that includes a spot for young children to play and read, and have gender-neutral and accessible restroom facilities.  Overall we strive to maintain a no-pressure environment that allows individuals to come together in community while not being afraid to be themselves.

We also see ourselves as a flexible and adaptive community that appreciates diverse liturgies and is open to emergent theology. We strive to respect other people’s perspectives and support each other in our individual faith journeys. We do our best to live our mission to welcome everyone to God’s table, hosting AA meetings and providing a safe space for LGBTQ teens to meet. We keep welcoming symbols including a Peace Pole on our grounds, and recently built an interfaith labyrinth that is intended to be open to all as a place of reflection.

We participate in many ministries that have come out of the needs and desires of our church family and community including supporting the Feed the Need summer program in Novi, sponsoring and hosting at the Crossroads soup kitchen every year, supporting youth and their families in our community through our backpack food ministry, and have an incredible SouperBowl fund raiser every year sponsored by our youth.

We also strive to make our world a better place through our Social Justice ministry which has provided hotel soaps for trafficking victims, marched for immigration and women’s marches, sponsored an interfaith women’s seminar group – WISDOM – and donate monies to the ACLU and the Southern Poverty Law Center.

We have an active pastoral care group, a Heavenly Hands knitting group that makes prayer shawls for those in need, and an Emmaus ministry that supports community outreach by providing services at bars and restaurants in the area.

There’s more that we do and know that we can achieve. We have a strong financial base and host an on-site day care program throughout the week that has been a tenant of ours for over 40 years. In short, we’re an active, healthy, small church that really enjoys one another’s company and strives to make a difference in our community and in the world.

Someone who can continue to motivate us with relevant, educational, and engaging sermons on a weekly basis is very important to us. We welcome support improving our Christian formation and increasing our community presence, including expanding our use of social media. We also anticipate a need for a capital campaign to achieve our long term vision in our current home.

In short, while every church wants it all, we are seeking a faith leader who can empower, engage, and encourage us. Our new leader must be kind and compassionate and demonstrate a great sense of humor and adaptability. A realistic optimist who works well with youth and young adults; and recognizes the importance of music and the power of prayer would fit us well.

So if this sounds like you, consider coming and growing with us.
