Strengths

Everyone knows your name."  We are a small parish, and every person in the church is important.  New people often say they chose Grace because of its small size.  We fill a niche.  Our children are part of a caring church community.

When someone isn't in church, we notice.  When they return, we let them know they were missed.  When someone is sick, we reach out to him or her.  When someone celebrates a milestone, we share in their joy.  When someone new comes to church, we welcome them.

Grace Church has a joyous, caring, friendly and welcoming congregation.  Serving Christ and growing in spirituality is of utmost importance.  Another strength is our lovely sanctuary, located in the capital city of Concord, NH.

Challenges

The benefits of being a small congregation are also the challenges.  There are fewer  people to draw on to get things done.

We have proportionately fewer families with childrens, so it is difficult to grow youth programs.  As is the case with other churches, sports teams now practice on Sundays and families are forced to choose between having their children play on a team and coming to church.  It is a challenge to attract and retain families, especially those with children.

We are a predominantly older congregation.  The aging congregation and lack of diversity is of concern in growing our ministries.  We would like a larger pool of servers as a few are involved in several ministries.  We would like to grow our Sunday School and Youth programs as well as community outreach.

We have many members who live 30 or more minutes from the church.  This impacts activities held in the evening.  Another challenge for the older members of our congregation is transportation to evening activities.

Comments

The Diocese invited Grace to participate in the Renewal Works Spiritual Life Inventory program.  Twelve people from our congregation represented Grace at the workshops with other churches in the Diocese.  It has helped identify the spiritual needs for those of us at Grace.
