Grace is a close-knit community with strong lay leaders who have consistently led well - they are good at listening to the congregation and making necessary decisions (for example, vestry managed process of discerning and deciding to go from 2 to 1 Sunday services last year very well and members' relationships have deepened as a result)

High enthusiasm - excited about their future, and realistic about the challenges they face

High value on outreach - both participating in local outreach initiatives (such as Meals on Wheels) with other faith communities and hosting own outreach ministries

Good condition financially

Congregation wants to grow for the right reasons and realizes the challenge this poses, esp in a small town that has seen decline.

Location may be a challenge for some - Freeport (population 24,000) is located in NW Illinois, approximately 110 miles west of downtown Chicago, and  60 miles from the Iowa border. Freeport is a beautiful area with numerous parks and forest preserves; cost of living is fairly low.

Grace is seeking a rector who is…

…able to keep the flame burning and even turn it up a notch. After small group meetings and a parish survey, a clear and inspired view of our next rector has emerged:

  • A spirit-filled preacher/teacher who moves us to think and feel deeply.
  • A leader who will help us grow better, and bigger, in the right way.
  • A pastor who is warm and engaging.
  • A rector who is an inclusive yet decisive leader of people.
  • A priest who helps discern the most meaningful ways to connect with the surrounding community
