Working in partnership with the Bishop, the Canon to the Ordinary for Mission Development serves as Chief of the Diocesan Staff and assists the diocesan community in effectively making our Rule of Life, Mission Statement and Vision Statement a reality by:

  • offering supervision and spiritual leadership for staff, leadership teams, clergy, Commission on Ministry and ministry formation of the diocese of Central New York;
  • assisting with the continued development of social and economic justice initiatives, expanding opportunities for an educate-to-action approach focused on dismantling systemic white privilege, dehumanization in all forms, including appropriation and inequality;
  • expanding our support as allies with LGBTQ+, new Americans, and in our current partnerships with InterFaith Works, the Samaritan Center, and other civic agencies.

A successful candidate will:

  • be an energetic person of grounded faith, prayer and dedication to the Gospel of Jesus Christ, the Way of Love
  • be someone who is actively ‘doing their work’ in terms of their own personal, spiritual, and social growth and development
  • be a priest in good standing in The Episcopal Church to fully support and encourage formation and sacramental ministry in the Diocese
  • be a collaborative leader who also possesses the ability to make hard decisions
  • understand how to cultivate safety and courage within a diocesan community
  • value transparency, curiosity, learning, accountability, and compassion
  • value compassionate truth telling and vulnerability
  • have excellent administrative and organizational abilities
  • utilize humor appropriately as a way of cultivating joy, hope, and honest relationships
  • possess the ability to listen deeply;
  • have a demonstrated ability to journey with people, with acceptance, nurture, accountability, and compassion
  • have experience creating collaborative and focused mutual ministry
  • be a natural encourager
  • have wisdom and experience to share in dismantling racism
  • enjoy working with diverse populations in collaborative ways;
