Strengths

We have been in the community for 45 years beginning at the historic crossroads of poverty and violence. We have had a long history of embracing leadership from all backgrounds, we have had many non-Chinese-speaking clergy leaders, and innovated creative approaches to ministry. We hope to present a compelling experience of Christ and community that welcomes new people and realize the obstacles before us.

Challenges

Church of Our Savior is an aging Cantonese speaking congregation: more than half of our membership are at retirement age or already retired. We know from our studies that this is not in proportion to the changing community that surrounds us. We need to overcome the obstacles so that the small Sunday congregation will be as diverse as those we hope to invite.
