Associate Rector to share all aspects of parish ministry with the Rector. Preaching every other week. Presiding at Eucharists on alternating Sundays. Sung liturgies. Special focus: Young Adult and Youth working in partnership with the Family Ministry Coordinator. “Family” includes traditional and non traditional.  Christ and St. Luke’s is an inclusive and socially progressive parish in an urban neighborhood a few minutes from downtown Norfolk. The immediate neighborhood includes the arts district, large medical complex, opera house and art museum. There is a strong music program which includes an adult choir which has sung internationally, a paid choral scholars program and a children’s chorister program. The beautiful stone gothic church is also the setting for some of the yearly Virginia Art’s Festival presentations.  The congregation welcomes and embraces diversity. Strong emphasis on preaching, teaching and liturgical leadership. The congregation includes young families and single persons, retirees, members of the LGBTQI community, and community leaders.

No particular challenges.

The recently departed associate was in place five years.  He accepted a call as a Priest-in-Charge in a parish in this diocese for which he is well prepared.  This is a fine opportunity for either a new or experienced priest who desires associate ministry in a thriving and complex urban parish environment.
