Strengths

Christ & Grace is a strong parish with a wide array of established programs and ministries.  Lay leadership is engaged and dedicated to the life of the parish.  This is the largest of four parishes in the City of Petersburg.

Challenges

The retirement of a 26-year Rector has created a somewhat anxious environment.  The rector was the second long-term rector in a row.  The previous rector arrived in 1952.  The parish rightly sees the long-tenured rectors as a strength in leadership.  They do, however, face the reality of the changing church and that such a long tenure in the future is very unlikely.  The city of Petersburg has undergone significant changes; the dynamics of those changes are real for Christ & Grace, as well.

Comments

Christ & Grace is full of people of energy who love the parish.  The next rector will be faced with the strong presence of predecessors and the need to differentiate the leadership of the parish for future ministry.
