Parish leadership that is not afraid to re-think what it means to be church. CEMP started in 2012 with 3 parishes and has added the other three more recently. They have embraced each other’s outreach programs and nurtured each other’s children.
The parishes of CEMP are all located in Lake County, Indiana, noted for environmental beauty seldom seen in such close proximity to industrial development: “The Region” (as it is known by locals) is a mere 30-50 miles from downtown Chicago. Residents are graced with access to all Chicago has to offer for work, recreation, entertainment and shopping, yet the overall cost-of-living is fully 10% lower than the US average. Because transportation options abound, many people choose to live in Indiana and work in the city. The close-knit communities of Lake County support historic attractions, art galleries, botanical gardens and museums that add to the cultural diversity of the region. Excellent schools (both public and charter) and universities attract families to the region.
The original partnership had 1 Priest In Charge who was not inclined to delegate. Two half-time associates were allowed to assist, but not to lead. As the partnership grew, so did the strains this put on leadership. In over a year of transition, lay leadership has been learning to take more responsibility.
We are looking for two full-time clergy who are able to collaborate both with each other and with a team of part-time and supply clergy.
This would be a rewarding position for people who are committed to Racial Reconciliation ministries. The Calumet region is a patchwork of urban and suburban neighborhoods and home to a variety of different ethnic/racial groups with complicated histories.
